who we are
We are a highly skilled, knowledgeable and professional team who help to simplify sustainability within the built environment. We are in touch with the latest developments in carbon reduction, building energy use and environmental legislation.
We are big enough to be able to focus resource on the needs of a diverse range of clients. However, we are also small enough to be flexible, friendly and straight-talking.
our background
We were formed in 2008 with the aim of carrying out sustainability work in construction in a better way. We wanted to cut through the green hype and apathy in the industry to deliver meaningful change.
Professionalism has always been at the heart of what we do. However, our greatest successes have been based on our honesty, friendliness and our understanding of peoples requirements (both our team and our clients).
Our team work organically to meet the needs of our wide range of clients. The level and range of services provided has developed to meet the ever changing and increasing complexity of sustainable design.
However, following the challenges that we all faced during the pandemic in 2020/21, SCS has not looked back. The team has grown in size and strength with varied backgrounds to increase our knowledge and passion of sustainable design.
In 2022, our office was relocated to a fantastic historic building with high ceilings, PV on the roof and a relaxed vibe in line with our company ethos. It is located next to the famous Bristol Floating Harbour with all its water-based activities and is a short walk from the thriving and diverse city centre.
With the team growing significantly the staff voice has been critical in implementing some fantastic new recommendations. This has resulted in a greater focus on personal development and widening each person’s skillset, but also addressing softer issues such team ethos, social activities, and continual professional development.
We embrace hybrid working and for more experienced consultants, full time remote working. Most importantly, we want SCS to be a fun and safe place to work.
The net result of all this development is that we can offer an even higher level of service for our clients.
meet the SENIOR team
Matthew Edis
Director
Matthew set up SCS in 2008, is the director of SCS and is one of the UK’s leading sustainability experts.
Before SCS, Matthew trained as a structural engineer, worked on site for contractors, qualified as a chartered building services engineer and ran a sustainability team for a large firm.
Matthew always aims to simplify complex sustainability problems to a level his Grandmother could understand.

Adam Watkins
Operations Manager
At one time or another Adam has delivered every service that SCS offers.
Don’t let his laidback and calm nature fool you. He knows almost everything there is to know about sustainable legislation in construction.
As operations director, he leads our development of the company and its direction, while still delivering Excellent and Outstanding rated projects.

Laura Jodar Tenor
Energy Team Lead
Laura has a Spanish engineering background working on Building Services design and managing energy efficiency projects before moving into sustainability.
Laura’s greatest skills are strategic thinking and the ability to give a straight answer to a question, a skill not always associated with sustainability consultants.
Whether it is BREEAM, SAP, IES, embodied carbon, circular economy statement, environmental site management or general sustainability consultancy, Laura will be able to help you.

Harry Collis
Assessment Team Lead
Harry leads the BREEAM, DREAM, HQM etc.. team. He has a wealth of working construction knowledge that supports his working day-to-day role.
Harry helps clients cut through the BREEAM technical jargon and translate this into a usable clear context.
He keeps things simple with a tried and tested pro active approach to BREEAM, ‘requesting the right information at the right time’ and helping clients understand the ‘art of the possible’.

Louisa Knowles
Zero Carbon Team Lead
Louisa is an expert in net zero and embodied carbon modelling and OneClick / RICS / UKGBC / CIBSE / RIBA guidance. She heads SCS’s Zero Carbon modelling team.
She takes pride in simplifying sustainable technical jargon and is an expert in BREEAM / DREAM assessment and Welsh Rugby history when not advising on carbon strategies.

Melinda Bende
Senior Sustainability Consultant
Melinda has a wealth of experience in sustainable design and legislation throughout the UK.
Born in Hungary, but trained in Manchester, Melinda is a leading BREEAM expert and has delivered countless projects across virtually every building type.
This knowledge has broadened since working with SCS to cover a wide range of sustainability services, which is delivered with knowledge, skill and care.

Nusrat Chowdhury
Senior Sustainability Consultant
Nusrat Chowdhury is a senior sustainability consultant who leads multiple projects, trains our new staff and helps run our sustainability assessment team.
With an ability to multitask, her success is based on applying the same practical and pragmatic approach on every project to make them flow and exceed her client’s targets.
