The project involves a construction of a new hotel located in Exeter Science Park.
The hotel will provide 142 rooms across four storeys, a bar, a restaurant and meeting facilities.
The design includes renewable energy sources and the implementation of over 25 solar-powered EV charging points to support the achievement of net zero.
SCS were appointed to provide BREEAM Services and as the Carbon Consultant included option appraisals throughout the design stage to ensure the embodied and operational carbon emissions.
Targeting the BREEAM Rating of Outstanding, the Zeal hotel will include the integration of renewable energy sources both on and within the building fabric, to deliver an exceptionally low Energy Usage Intensity below 55kWh/m2, generating more energy each year than it consumes. The building will also be constructed achieving the RIBA 2030 embodied carbon built target of less than 750kgCO2/m2.
SCS are supporting these requirements providing the following services:
- BREEAM Assessor & AP during design and construction stages.
- Whole Life Carbon Calculation
- Life Cycle Assessments
- Life Cycle Costing Assessments.
Our support as Carbon Consultant resulted in the switch from steel to timber studs, GGBS content levels and installing finishes with longer life spans and higher recycled contents.
