Once home to aviation icon the Concorde, the legendary Brabazon Hangars will be transformed into the largest arena and exhibition centre in the region. The central Arena, with a capacity of up to 19,000, will serve as an important venue in the UK music tour circuit. The East and West Hangars will be large scale, flexible halls with breakout spaces for hosting major conferences and exhibitions.
YTL Arena Bristol has set a goal to become the most responsible and sustainable arena in Europe, aiming to be carbon neutral from day one. They are implementing various measures to achieve this, including the re-use of the existing steel structure from the original Brabazon Hangars.
Other measures include the installation of solar panels, air source heat pumps for heating and cooling, LED lighting connected to an intelligent building management system, and rainwater harvesting.
Recognising the importance of sustainability for the success of the development, YTL Bristol appointed SCS at an early stage to provide various services and act as the BREEAM assessor. This demonstrates their dedication to ensuring the project meets the ambitious BREEAM Excellent target and their commitment to being a responsible and environmentally friendly arena and exhibition centre.
