The University of Bristol has transformed the Grade II listed Fry Building to become the new home for the School of Mathematics. In line with the University’s Sustainability policy, it achieved BREEAM Very Good and an EPC C rating.
Despite significant restrictions due to the listed building status low and zero carbon technologies were incorporated into the building wherever possible.
The newly renovated building features an atrium linking to a new 140-seat lecture theatre underneath a roof garden, additional lecture theatres, teaching rooms, a diverse range of spaces for individual and group study, as well as social and interactive areas.
The atrium integrates public art in the form of a Voronoi pattern. This Voronoi screen, which also acts as a brise-soleil, encloses what were originally external walls.
