SCS have been appointed by Cardiff Council to be Carbon Consultant to support a new development of 53 new council homes adjacent to St Teilo’s School, Llanedeyrn, Cardiff.
The scheme aspires to deliver a wholly affordable housing project which embraces cutting edge sustainable technologies with an ambition to reduce both fuel poverty for future residents and the scheme’s carbon footprint.
The development is aspirational, setting out to achieve Passivhaus Plus certification, and low carbon aligned to the LETI 2030 Design Targets. The scheme will also reply on modern methods of construction.
SCS are undertaking the a Whole Life Carbon assessment for the development. We are working closely with Pentan Architects to ensure Passivhaus and low carbon principles seamlessly align by undertaking a number of option appraisals to understand their embodied and operational carbon impact.
This project marks the first Net Zero Carbon vision of its kind for Cardiff Council, aligning with ‘One Planet Cardiff’ – a vision for a Carbon Neutral Cardiff by 2030. SCS have engaged with the team early in the design and are providing surplus information to present to the Welsh Governments ‘Designing Net Zero Conference’. The WLCa aims to be a benchmark for projects going forward.
