We are thrilled that SCS won the category of New Construction  – Commercial for the vocoZeal Hotel, Exeter at the 2025 BREEAM Awards on the 5th June. It’s great to be recognised for the work we do, and a huge well done to all the team who have worked on the project over the years!

The newly open voco Zeal Hotel is IHG’s first branded net zero carbon hotel. We have been working extensively with the contractor RED Construction to deliver BREEAM Outstanding as well as ensuring that the hotel has been built to the highest Sustainability standards. The four-star, 142-bedroom hotel has been constructed with half the embodied carbon of a standard hotel. It will generate 100 per cent of electricity consumed via the photo voltaic roof and wall panels, positioning it firmly in line with the 2050 Paris Agreement requirements and exceeding 2030 targets.

Jane Goddard, Deputy CEO and Managing Director of Building Performance Services at BRE, said:

“We’re proud to celebrate some of the most impactful sustainability successes in the built environment at this year’s BREEAM Awards.

“Adopting science-led approaches like BREEAM drives real-world value for businesses, investors and for society as a whole. It’s exciting to see how our award winners and the wider BREEAM community are embedding sustainability at the heart of their work, pushing boundaries with creativity and commitment.

“With our global network of over 14,000 assessors championing high standards, we remain focused on accelerating progress towards a net zero future across the entire built environment.”
