Prestley Wood Academy, also known as the Alconbury SEND School, has recently achieved certification at the Project Completion Review (PCR) stage, in collaboration with Morgan Sindall. This academy is part of a broader initiative on the same educational campus, which also includes the development of a secondary school.
The facility boasts a range of impressive amenities tailored for students aged 4 to 19. Highlights include a hydrotherapy pool, an indoor trampoline, and soft play areas, all designed to accommodate individuals of varying abilities. Special sensory rooms dedicated to music and light enhance the internal environment, while external access leads to sensory gardens featuring interlinked curved footpaths and individual benching areas. Additionally, outdoor amenities like a trampoline, gym equipment, and a wheelchair swing further enrich the experience for all users.
Interestingly, the academy is built on a former RAF base’s runway in Alconbury Weald, playing a role in Cambridgeshire County Council’s ‘Nearly Zero Carbon Buildings’ Initiative. this development has successfully obtained an Excellent rating for both Design Stage (DS) and Post Construction.
Currently, we are working on the Alconbury Weald Secondary School which is part of the same scheme, which has been certified as Very Good at the design stage and is now under construction.
