Our Cultural Heart is set to revitalise Huddersfield’s town centre, creating an inclusive and communal space that fosters vibrancy and social engagement for all residents. This ambitious £210 million regeneration project, undertaken by Kirklees Council, aims to transform key historical buildings while achieving high sustainability standards.
We have been working on multiple phases of the project, including the Food Hall, Library, and Museum, ensuring they meet their BREEAM targets.
The Grade II-listed 1970 Queensgate Market, renowned for its striking architectural features, including 21 concrete hyperbolic paraboloid roof shells and ceramic public art series by Fritz Stellar, will be reconfigured into a contemporary library and food hall. This space will host local, independent businesses, creating a vibrant marketplace that supports the community and promotes local entrepreneurship.
The retrofit of these buildings uses low-energy design principles to significantly reduce their energy use, contributing to a sustainable future while preserving their heritage significance. This is linked to Kirklees Councils pledge to achieve net zero carbon by 2038.
