Yesterday, we were honored to attend the official launch of the Brabazon New Town development by YTL Group. This milestone event was officiated by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who was joined by several key dignitaries to witness this historic occasion. Among those present were Malaysia’s Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz; Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir; Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani; UK Secretary of State for Business and Trade Jonathan Reynolds; YTL Group Executive Chairman Tan Sri (Sir) Francis Yeoh; and YTL Power International Berhad Managing Director Dato’ Seri Yeoh Seok Hong.
The Brabazon New Town development represents an exciting new chapter in sustainable urban living, transforming the historic Filton Airfield into a community featuring 6,500 high-quality homes, a 15-acre park, and the innovative YTL Arena Bristol, which is set to become Europe’s most sustainable entertainment venue.
This visionary “15-minute neighbourhood” will provide residents easy access to essential services such as schools, workplaces, shops, healthcare facilities, and green spaces, all within a short walking or biking distance.
YTL Arena Bristol has also set a goal to be the most responsible and sustainable arena in Europe, aiming for carbon neutrality from day one. To achieve this, the arena is implementing various measures, including the reuse of the existing steel structure from the original Brabazon Hangars. Other initiatives include the installation of solar panels, the use of air source heat pumps for heating and cooling, LED lighting connected to an intelligent building management system, and rainwater harvesting.
Recognizing the importance of sustainability for the success of the development, YTL Bristol engaged us early on to provide various services and act as the BREEAM assessor. This highlights their commitment to meeting the ambitious BREEAM Excellent target and their dedication to creating a responsible and environmentally friendly arena and exhibition center.
